An online thesaurus is an authority
file or list of subject terms used to index a document. It is used with the EXPAND command to display an index of
database-specific terms associated with the term you EXPAND. If thesaurus terms are
available, the index of terms includes an RT, Related Terms, column with the number of
available related terms.
To display an index of Related Terms, EXPAND the E number of the indexed entry that has
Related Terms. This will display the Related Terms index. Entries in the Related Terms
index are referenced by R numbers, and if an entry has another set of Related Terms, the
display includes another RT column with R numbers assigned to the additional Related
Terms.
To SELECT a term from the Related Terms index, enter the SELECT command followed by the R number displayed in the Reference column.
If there are additional Related Terms,
you can EXPAND those terms by entering the EXPAND command followed by the R number of the
additional Related Terms entry, for example, e r2.
Within most R-numbered lists, a "Type" column shows the hierarchical
relationships among the terms in the list. Typical entries in this column include:
