| DialogWeb Help: The ID (Identify Duplicates) Command |
| Example: Sort the
search results from Set 1, to group duplicate citations together. Command: id s1 |
The IDENTIFY DUPLICATES command, abbreviated id, creates a sorted set of records in which duplicate records are grouped together for easy identification. The command creates a set of records that have been sorted by title; however, some variations will occur in alphabetical order since duplicate detection takes into consideration alternate spellings, minor variations in titles, and leading articles, such as the and a.
Unlike the REMOVE DUPLICATES command, the IDENTIFY DUPLICATES command does not remove records from your search results.
You can use the ID command on sets created with the RD command to create a sorted set. The set will be sorted alphabetically by title.
If you use the ID command on a search that includes one or more files that do not offer duplicate detection, a system message displays; however, the command is applied to the files that support duplicate detection. The records from the files that do not support duplicate detection are retained and appended to the sorted set.
